2、ttalentedandmotivatedpeople,representativesofayoungergenerationthatarepreparingthemselvesforthecomingofanewcentury.imgratefulthativebeengiventhisopportunity,atsuchahistoricmoment,tostandhereasaspokesmanofmygenerationandtotakeaseriouslookbackatthepast15years,acrucialperiodforeveryoneofusandforthisnat
3、ionaswell.thoughitisonlywithinmypowertotellaboutmypersonalexperience,andonlyatinyfragmentofitatthat,itstillrepresents,ibelieve,therootofaspiritwhichhasbeenessentialtomeandtoallthepeoplebredbythepast15years.inmyelementaryyears,therewasalittlegirlintheclasswhoworkedveryhardbutsomehowcouldneverdosatisf
4、actorilyinherlessons.theteacheraskedmetohelpher,anditwasobviousthatsheexpectedalotfromme.butasayoungboy,restless,thoughtless,ialwaystriedtoevadehersoastogetmoretimetoenjoymyself.onedaybeforethefinalexam,shecameuptomeandsaid,couldyoupleaseexplainthistomeiwantverymuchtodobetterthistime.istartedexplain
5、ing,andfinishedinahurry.pretendingnottonoticeherstillconfusedeyes,iranoffquickly.natsurprisingly,sheagaindidverybadlyintheexam.andtwomonthslater,atthebeginningofthenewsemester,wordcameofherdeathofbloodcancer.nooneeverknewaboutthelittletaskifailedtofulfill,buticouldntforgivemyself.isimplycouldntforge
6、thereyes,whichseemtobeasking,whydidntyoudoalittlemoretohelpme,whenitwassoeasyforyouwhydidntyouunderstandalittlebetterthetrustplacedinyou,sothatiwouldnothavetoleavethisworldinsuchpainandregretiwasabouteightornineyearsoldatthattime,butinawayitwastheverystartingpointofmylife,foribegantounderstandthewor
7、dresponsibilityandtolearntoalwaysdomydutiesfaithfullyanddevotedly,fortheimplicationsofthatsacredwordhasdawnedonme:themutualneedandtrustofpeople,theco-operationandinter-reliancewhicharetheveryfoundationofhumansociety.laterinmylife,icontinuedtoexperiencemanyfailures.butneveragaindidifeelthatregretwhic
8、hstruckmeatthedeathofthegirl,foritmakesmyheartsatisfiedtothinkthatihavealwaysdoneeverythinginmypowertofulfillmyresponsibilitiesasbestican.asigrewup,changedandimprovedbythisincidentandmanyothersimilarones,ibegantoperceivethechangestakingplacearoundmeandtofindthatsociety,inaway,wasinitsformativeyearsl
9、ikemyself.newbuildings,newcommoditiesandnewfashionsappeareveryday.newideas,newinformation,newtechnologies.peoplecantalkwitheachotherfromanycorneroftheearthinamatterofseconds.societyisbecomingmorecompetitive.wordslikeindividualityandcreativityaregettingmoreemphasisandmorepeoplearerewardedfortheirhard
10、workandefforts.suchistheerainwhichthisgeneration,growsandmatures.suchistheerainwhichthisgenerationwilltakeoverthenationfromourfathersandlearntorunit.yetinthemeantime,manyproblemsstillexist.welearnthatcrimestakeplaceinbroaddaylightwithcrowdsofpeoplelookingonandnotassisting.wehearthattherearestillabou
11、t1millionchildreninthiscountrywhocantevenaffordtogotoelementaryschoolswhileenormoussumsofmoneyarebeingsquanderedawayondinnerpartiesandluxurycars.webuyshoddymedicines,ormerelyworthlessjunkinthenameofmedicines,thataggravate,ratherthanalleviateourdiseasessincemoney,manypeoplebelieve,isthemostimportantt
12、hingintheworldthatmustbemade,evenattheexpenseofmoralityandresponsibility.suchanera,therefore,determinesthatweareagenerationwithakeenersenseofcompetitionandefficiencyandagreaterreadinesstothinkcriticallyandactcreatively.suchanera,furthermore,demands,thatweareagenerationwithaclearperceptionofourhistor
13、icalresponsibilityandanaggressivewilltotakeactionandsolvetheproblems.historyhaslongbeenpreparingthesequalitiesinthisgenerationanditisnowcallingusforwardtogivetestimonytoourpatriotismandheroismtowardsthisnationandallhumanity.standingherenow,ithinkofthepast15yearsofmylifeasanordinarystudent.probablyil
14、lbeanordinarymanfortherestofmylife.butthisdoesntdiscouragemeany,foriknowthatwithmysenseofresponsibilityanddevotedeffortstoalwaysstrive,forthebest,itsgoingtobeameaningfulandworthwhilelifethatiwillbeliving.standingherenow,ithinkofthepast15yearsofthisnation,whichhasachievedgreatnessthatinspiredmillions
15、ofpeopleofmyage,mostofwhomwillnotattainfameorprestigeandonlyafewofwhomwillberememberedbyposterity.butthatdoesntdiscourageusany,becauseweknowthattheworldwatches,theworldlistens,theworldiswaitingtoseewherethisnationwillbeheadinginatimeofrichopportunitiesandfiercecompetition.icanteverforgetthatlittlegi
16、rlinmyclasswhocouldnthadthesameopportunitiesasanyofusheretoenjoyawonderfullifetodayandahopefulworldtomorrow.itisthesacredresponsibilityofthisgenerationtofaceuptothechallengesofthenewcenturyandtodevoteoursweatandblood,ourwisdomandpassion,tothehistoriccauseofmakingthisnationagreaterandhappierlandforeveryoneofus.wearenotgoingtoevadethatresponsibility.wearegoingtoletpeopledown.andpeople,farandnear,willhearofus.frostwill
