Wecelebratethepast.WehavehonoredAmericasremarkableachievements,strugglesandtriumphsinthe20thcentury.Wecelebratethefuture,imagininganevenmoreremarkable21stcentury. Aswema
2、rvelatthechangesofthelast100years,wedreamofwhatchangesthenext100andthenext1,000willbring.Andaspowerfulasourmemoriesare,ourdreamsmustbeevenstronger.Forwhenourmemoriesoutweighourdreams,webecomeold.AnditistheeternaldestinyofAmericatoremainforeveryoung-alwaysreachingbeyond,alwaysbecoming,asourFounderspl
3、edged,amoreperfectunion. SoweAmericansmustnotfearchange.Instead,letuswelcomeit,embraceitandcreateit. Thegreatstoryofthe20thcenturyisthetriumphoffreedomandfreepeople.Astorytoldinthedramaofnewimmigrants,thestrugglesforequalrights,thevictoriesovertotalitarianism,thestunningadvancesineconomicwell-beinga
4、ndcultureandhealthandspaceandtelecommunicationsandinbuildingaworldinwhichmorethanhalfthepeopleliveundergovernmentsoftheirownchoosingforthefirsttimeinallhistory. Wemustneverforgetthemeaningofthe20thcenturyorthegiftsofthosewhoworkedandmarched,whofoughtanddiedforthetriumphoffreedom. Soasweringinthisnew
5、yearinanewcentury,inanewmillennium,wemustnowandalwaysechoDr.King,inthewordsoftheoldAmericanhymn,Letfreedomring. Ifthestoryofthe20thcenturyisthetriumphoffreedom,whatwillthestoryofthe21stcenturybe Letitbethetriumphoffreedomwiselyusedtobringpeacetoaworldinwhichwehonorourdifferencesandevenmoreourcommonh
6、umanity.Suchatriumphwillrequiregreateffortsfromusall. Itwillrequireustostandagainsttheforcesofhatredandbigotry,terroranddestruction.Itwillrequireustocontinuetoprosper,toalleviatepoverty,tobetterbalancethedemandsofworkandfamilyandtoserve,eachofus,inourcommunities.版权全部 Itwillrequireustotakebettercareo

Andperhapsmostimportant,itwillrequireustosharewithourfellowAmericansand,increasingly,withourfellowcitizensof
8、theworld,theeconomicbenefitsofglobalization,thepoliticalbenefitsofdemocracyandhumanrights,theeducationalandhealthbenefitsofallthingsmodern,fromtheInternettothegeneticencyclopediatothemysteriesbeyondoursolarsystem. Now,wemaynotbeabletoeliminateallhatefulintolerance,butwecandevelopahealthyintoleranceo
9、fbigotry,oppressionandabjectpoverty. Wemaynotbeabletoeliminatealltheharshconsequencesofglobalization.Butwecancommunicatemoreandtravelmoreandtrademoreinawaythatliftsthelivesofordinaryworkingfamilieseverywhereandthequalityofourglobalenvironment. Wemaynotbeabletoeliminateallthefailuresofgovernmentandin
10、ternationalinstitutions.Butwecancertainlystrengthendemocracysoallchildrenarepreparedforthe21stcenturyworldandprotectedfromitsharshestsideeffects. Andwecandosomuchmoretoworktogether,tocooperateamongourselves,toseizetheproblemsandtheopportunitiesofthisever-smallplanetweallcallhome. Inshort,ifwewantthe
11、storyofthe21stcenturytobethetriumphofpeaceandharmony,wemustembraceourcommonhumanityandourshareddestiny. Now,werejustmomentsfromthatnewmillennium. Twocenturiesago,astheFramerswerecraftingourConstitution,BenjaminFranklinwasoftenseeninIndependenceHall,lookingatapaintingofthesunlowonthehorizon.Whenatlon
12、glasttheConstitutionfinallywassigned,Mr.Franklinsaid,Ihaveoftenwonderedwhetherthatsunwasrisingorsetting.Today,Ihavethehappinesstoknowitisarisingsun. Well,twocenturieslater,weknowthesunwillalwaysriseonAmericaaslongaseachnewgenerationlightsthefireoffreedom.Ourchildrenareready.Soagain,thetorchispassedtoanewcenturyofyoungAmericans.版权全部 5
