2、withhowbesttoreconcilemyselftotheAmericanpeople,toacknowledgemyownwrongdoingandstilltomaintainmyfocusontheworkofthepresidency. Othersarepresentingmydefenseonthefacts,thelawandtheConstitution.NothingIcansaynowcanaddtothat. WhatIwanttheAmericanpeopletoknow,whatIwanttheCongresstoknowisthatIamprofoundly

MerewordscannotfullyexpresstheprofoundremorseIfeelforwhatourcountryisgoingthroughandforwhatmembersofbothpartiesinCongressarenowforcedtodealwith.ThesepastmonthshavebeenatorturousprocessofcomingtotermswithwhatIdid.Iunderstandthataccountabilitydemandsconsequences,and
5、Impreparedtoacceptthem. PainfulasthecondemnationoftheCongresswouldbe,itwouldpaleincomparisontotheconsequencesofthepainIhavecausedmyfamily.Thereisnogreateragony. Likeanyonewhohonestlyfacestheshameofwrongfulconduct,IwouldgiveanythingtogobackandundowhatIdid. ButoneofthepainfultruthsIhavetolivewithisthe

Shouldtheydeterminethatmyerrorsofwordanddeedrequiretheirrebukeandcensure,Iamreadytoacceptthat. Meanwhile,IwillcontinuetodoallIcantoreclaimthetru
