11、uctive mechanical failures or other seriousaccidents.Industry practices that have evolved from this experience provide a sound basisfor safety requirements of gas compression facilities.Information on industry practices,however,has not been readily available to all whodesign,install,or operate compr

12、essor installations.It was,therefore,decided that a needexisted for a standard summarizing the basic safety requirements of compressor systemscommonly used in the process industries.In developing this Standard,the Committeehas consulted many sources and the resulting recommendations are believed to

13、representa summation of the best experience available.In the case of practical difficulty or unnecessary hardship,the authority having juris-diction is urged to grant exceptions from the literal requirements of this Standard andto permit the use of other devices or methods,but only when it is clearl

14、y evident thatequivalent protection is thereby secured.Safety codes and standards are intended to enhance public health and safety.Revisionsresult from committee consideration of factors such as technological advances,new data,and changing environmental and industry needs.Revisions do not imply that previouseditions were inadequate.This Standard,which was approved by the ASME B19 Committee and by the Sponsor,was approved and designated as an American National Standard by the AmericanNational Standards Institute on May 10,1991.进
