、Designation:D 930 89(Reapproved 1996)e1Standard Test Method ofTotal Immersion Corrosion Test of Water-Soluble AluminumCleaners1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 930;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision,

、the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon(e)indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.e1NOTEKeywords were added editorially in February 1996.1.Scope1.1 This test method2covers determination of the corrosivee

、ffects of water-soluble aluminum cleaners(nonetching type)on aluminum or aluminum alloys, under conditions of totalimmersion,by quantitative measurement of weight change orby qualitative visual determination of change. The test isdesigned for the determination of corrosion characteristics ofthe cleane

、r and not for determination of the life of the cleaner.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of

、 regulatory limitations prior to use.Material SafetyData Sheets are available for reagents and materials.Reviewthem for hazards prior to usage.2.Significance and Use2.1 This test method is used to distinguish water-solublealuminum cleaners that are excessively corrosive to aluminumor aluminum alloys

、.The users will define the degree ofcorrosion considered excessive in terms of weight loss per unitof surface area or in terms of changes in appearance,or both.3.Apparatus3.1 Test TubesChemical-and heat-resistant glass3testtubes 38 mm in diameter by 300 mm in length, having acapacity of about 300 mL.

、The tubes shall be chosen so that thespecimens will remain fully immersed during the test, the ratioof area of immersed metal to the volume of solution will be asprescribed in 6.1,and sufficient space will be provided forfoam formation if foam is formed by the cleaner.3.2 CondensersAllihn or other ty

、r until neutral.3.4 Constant-Temperature DeviceAny suitable meansmay be employed for maintaining the solutions actively at theboiling point, for tests conducted at that temperature. In theevent that the tests are to be made at temperatures 20 6 2Fabove and 20 6 2F below the average temperature recom-m

、ended by the manufacturer,as prescribed in 6.4,a suitableconstant-temperature bath shall be provided to maintain thecleaner temperature at the required point.4.Test Specimens4.1 Aluminum or aluminum alloys, protectively coated orbare, may be used as required. The test specimens shall be 18by 75 by 1 mm

、 in size(see 6.1).At least two,and preferablyfour, replicates shall be tested in each concentration of cleanersolution prescribed in 6.2.The number of replicates under testshall be reported.5.Preparation of Test Specimens5.1 Selection of SamplesThe samples selected for corro-sion testing shall be ide
