8、eep test is effective for defining the film forma-tion stage of emulsified asphalt.A brush(designed to closelyreplicate the sweeping action of a broom)exerts a force on theaggregate used on surface treatments.Emulsified asphalt isapplied to an asphalt felt disk.Aggregate is applied andembedded into
9、the emulsified asphalt.The sample is thenconditioned at a prescribed temperature and time period beforetesting.A mixer abrades the surface of the sample using anylon brush.After 1 min of abrasion,the test is stopped,anyloose aggregate is removed,and the percent mass loss iscalculated.4.Significance
10、and Use4.1 This test method is useful for classifying rapid-settingemulsified asphalt and is applicable to surface treatments thatrequire a quick return to traffic.It has the capability to predictsurface treatment performance in the formative stage usingconstruction components.This performance test
11、is intended toevaluate the potential curing characteristics of a binder-aggregate combination to ensure that the surface treatment issufficiently cured before allowing traffic onto the seal.NOTE1The quality of the results produced by this standard aredependent on the competence of the personnel perf
12、orming the procedureand the capability,calibration,and maintenance of the equipment used.Agencies that meet the criteria of Specification D3666 are generallycapable of competent and objective testing,sampling,inspection,etc.Users of this standard are cautioned that compliance with SpecificationD3666
