6、hods3.Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 accuracy:3.1.1.1 generally,a term used to indicate the reliability of asample,a measurement,or an observation.3.1.1.2 specifically,a measure of closeness of agreementbetween an experimental result and the true value.An exampleis the observed and true sulfur con

7、tent of a coal consignment.This measurement is affected by chance errors as well as bybias.3.1.2 auger incrementthe retained portion of one extrac-tion operation of the auger.3.1.3 consignmenta discrete amount of coal,such as ashipment,a car load,a unit train,or a days production.Aconsignment may in

8、clude more than one lot of coal and maycorrespond to a specific period of time,such as a samplingperiod or a billing period.3.1.4 precisiona term used to indicate the capability of aperson,an instrument,or a method to obtain reproducibleresults;specifically,a measure of the chance error as expressed

9、by the variance,standard error,or a multiple of the standarderror(see Practice E 177).3.1.5 unbiased sample(representative sample)a samplefree of bias.4.Summary of Practice4.1 A sample of coal is extracted from a stationary loadcontained within a railcar(s),truck(s),or barge(s)by insertingan auger i

10、nto the vehicle in a vertical manner to extract acolumnar sample of coal from the vehicle.The coal collectedby the auger is then placed into sealed containers for storage oris processed by additional sampling equipment,for example,asecondary sampler or crusher.The processed auger incrementsproduced

11、by these on-line components should be placed intosealed containers for future laboratory analysis.5.Significance and Use5.1 Auger sampling systems can be used to extract samplesfrom trucks,railcars,barges,or static compacted stockpileswhere the use of a full-stream mechanical sampling systemmay be i

12、mpractical.The samples obtained from these systemscan be used to establish the materials commercial value orconstituents for quality control purposes at the shipping orreceiving location of the interested parties in the transaction.The utilization of an auger system and procedures for collect-ing co

16、1 General ConsiderationsMechanical auger sampling isdesignated as Condition D,Stationary Coal Sampling.Whenusing augers to sample,the material taken may only berepresentative to the depth sampled.In addition,the parameterssuch as top size,degree of preparation,degree of materialsegregation,and pattern of auger placement should also beconsidered.6.2 Consideration of Top SizeDesigns of mechanicalsampling augers vary from high-powered augers with cutterbits drilling through the coal to be sampled,t
