2、on procedures would result in a code capableof producing differences from the printed tables of 1 in thefourth derived place at a rate of at least one difference inevery 240 tabulated entries.This insufficiency in the roundingand truncating procedures is a direct result of a lack of clarityin Volume
3、 X.This lack of clarity is corrected as described in the followingpages.The corrections to the implementation procedures werevalidated by an exhaustive number-by-number test of the results ofthe API master tape against the tabular representation producedin three different computer systems:Double pre
4、cision IBM,singleprecision CDC,and a module in a TI-59 calculator.These threetypes of equipment exhibited differences of 1 in the fourth placeat a rate of less than.008 percent(7 entries out of 87,000in Table 6B and less than half that rate in Table 6A).This rateis caused by the differences in the n
5、umber of places carried byeach machine and represents the maximum degree of software-machineindependence presently attainable.The rate of difference,whilenot quantitatively known,will be less than this for five significantfigure applications.Because of the nature of the calculations,itis believed th
