5、WORD This standard is a result of a program to standardize Modular Machine Tools,which was initiated October 15,1963.At that time a representative group of users and builders of this type machine tool equipment in a special meeting expressed the desire to update and perpetuate the then existing JIC(
6、Joint Industry Con-ference)standard on Modular Machine and Tools.Technical Committee 34 of Sectional Committee B-5,was formed and carried out the necessary development.A s such,the standard represents the best thinking of both the users and the builders who participated.Modular Machine Tools have be
7、en referred to as“build-ing block”machines.This standard establishes fastening and dimensional standards to provide maximum in-terchangeability between Modular or“Building Block”components.It was approved as an American National Standard on April 27,1971.In 1976,Technical Committee 34 drafted a revi
8、sion of the existing standard.This was done to update the standard to meet existing industry practices.This revision was approved as an American National Standard on August 8,1977.In 1978,Technical Commitee 34 drafted a metric version of ANSI B5.43.This was done to create an in-dustry standard which
9、 meets existing practices and which is compatible with foreign markets requiring metric machine tools.This standard,after approval by the Standards Committee and the Secretariat,was approved by ANSI on September 13,1979,and designated B5.43M-1979.i i i 3 Copyright ASME International Provided by IHS
