3、 the determi-nation of the copper number of bleached and purified paper andpaperboard,except those containing calcium sulfite,zincsulfide,melamine resin,urea-formaldehyde resin,starch,rosinsize,or other copper-reducing nonfibrous materials.Papercontaining such additives can be tested only if the amo

4、unt andreducing power of the added material is known.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of r

7、r number can be regarded as an index of thoseimpurities in cellulose such as oxycellulose,hydrocellulose,lignin,and sugars which possess reducing properties.It isvaluable for detecting changes accompanying deterioration andmay,therefore,be considered as a test for indicating thepermanence of paper.I

8、n parchment and grease-proof papers,copper number is considered to give an indication of the degreeof parchmentizing.5.Apparatus5.1 GrinderAgrinder that will completely disintegrate thepaper without heating or contaminating it.The grinder shall bea Koerner type or its equivalent.After disintegrating

9、,thesample should have an absorbent cotton-like appearance.5.2 BathAsteam or oil bath that can be maintained at 1006 1C.6.Reagents6.1 Carbonate-Bicarbonate SolutionDissolve 350 g ofsodium carbonate decchydrate(Na2CO310H2O)(or 129 g ofanhydrous Na2CO3)and 50 g of sodium bicarbonate(NaHCO3)in water an

10、d dilute to 1 L.6.2 Copper Sulfate SolutionDissolve 100 g of coppersulfate(CuSO45H2O)in water and dilute to 1 L.6.3 Molybdophosphoric AcidDissolve 100 g of sodiummolybdate(Na2MoO22H2O)and 75 mL of phosphoric acid(H3PO4,83%)in a mixture of 275 mLof sulfuric acid(H2SO4,sp gr 1.84)and 1.75 L of water.6

11、.4 Potassium Permanganate Standard Solution(0.05 N)Dissolve 1.5815 g of potassium permanganate(KMnO4)inwater and dilute to 1 L in a volumetric flask.Standardizeagainst sodium oxalate as the primary standard.6.5 Sodium Carbonate Solution(50 g/L)Dissolve 50 g ofNa2CO3in water and dilute to 1 L.6.6 Sul

12、furic Acid(sp gr 1.84)Concentrated sulfuric acid(sp gr 1.84).7.Sampling7.1 Sample the material in accordance with Practice D 585.8.Test Specimens8.1 Cut two or more thoroughly representative test speci-mens from each test unit of the sample.Disintegrate eachspecimen in the grinder.For mineral coated

16、s.qualitative tests for sizing(rosin,starch,glue,and casein),saturants(waxes,organic saturants,etc.),mineral fillers(espe-cially calcium sulfite and zinc sulfide),and any other suspectednonfibrous materials shall be made before weighing out por-tions of the specimen for test.9.Procedure9.1 Allow the ground specimens to come to moistureequilibrium with the atmosphere of the balance and weigh aportion of 1.5 g to the nearest 0.01 g.Weigh,at the same time,specimens for moisture and ash determinatio
