2、n,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon(e)indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This practice provides a standard communications pro-tocol for a serial communication between a host compute

3、r anda spectrometer designed for colorimetry.The adoption of thestandard communication protocol on the part of instrumentmanufacturers will allow instrument users the option to employthird-party software,or to replace one instrument with anotherwhile retaining the same software.This standard is not

4、in-tended to replace existing standards,such as SCPI-1999written by the SCPI Consortium2as a set of Standard Com-mands for Programmable Instruments for bench-top instru-ments that utilize the IEEE-488 or IEEE-488.2 interface.Thisstandard has been adopted by many analytical instrumentmakers and is us

5、ed by them as the interface standard forspectroscopy even when the instrument interface is RS-232c.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health p

7、mal set of commands to beissued to the instrument by the host computer and the argu-ments of these commands.It standardizes the instrumentsacknowledgement,the data format,and the error messages theinstrument will return from such command.The commands arecomplete enough to allow the users to set the

8、instrumentsmode of measurement to transmission or reflectance measure-ments,and the wavelength interval to 10 or 20 nm.Users mayperform zero and 100%photometric calibration,and they mayboth upload and download standard white-tile calibration datato the instrument.Provision is made for obtaining a st

9、atusstring,and obtaining information about the particular instru-ment such as its serial number and geometry.5.Significance and Use5.1 The practice should be adopted by spectrometer manu-facturers and developers of software to be used on hostcomputers to communicate with such instruments.6.Procedure
