3、ed reduction of a transportation noise source.Otherratings include Classification E413 that rates the ability of a partition to reduce speech and othersounds within a limited frequency range,and Classification E989 that provides a rating method forcomparing the impact-insulation properties of floor-
4、ceiling assemblies.1.Scope1.1 The purpose of this classification is to provide a methodto calculate single-number ratings that can be used for assesingthe isolation for the outdoor sound provided by a building orcomparing building facade specimens including walls,doors,windows,and combinations there
5、of,including complete struc-tures.These ratings are designed to correlate with subjectiveimpressions of the ability of building elements to reduce thepenetration of outdoor ground and air transportation noise thatcontains strong low-frequency sound.2These ratings providean evaluation and rank orderi
6、ng of the performance of testspecimens based on their effectiveness at controlling the soundof a specific outdoor sound spectrum called the referencesource spectrum.1.2 In addition to the calculation method,this classificationdefines some ratings not defined in other standards.Otherstandards may def
7、ine additional ratings based on the method ofthis classification.1.3 The rating does not necessarily relate to the perceivedaesthetic quality of the transmitted sound.Different facadeelements with similar ratings may differ significantly in theproportion of low and high frequency sound that they tra
8、nsmitand the spectra of sources can vary significantly.It is best touse specific sound transmission loss values,in conjunctionwith actual spectra of outdoor and indoor sound levels,formaking final selections of facade elements.1.4 Excluded from the scope of this classification areapplications involv
9、ing noise spectra differing markedly fromthat shown in Table 1.Thus excluded,for example,would becertain industrial noises with high levels at frequencies belowthe 80 Hz one-third octave band,relative to levels at higherfrequencies,and any source,including some transportationsources,that does not ha
10、ve a spectrum similar to that in Table1.However,for any source with a spectrum similar to that inTable 1,this classification provides a more reliable ranking ofthe performance of partitions and facade elements than doother classifications such as Classification E413.1.5 The values stated in SI units
