、Designation:E141616aStandard Practice forRadioscopic Examination of Weldments1This standard is issued under the fixed designation E1416;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses
、 indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This practice covers a uniform procedure for radio-scopic examination of weldments.Requirements expressed inthis practice are intended to control the quality of
、 the radio-scopic images and are not intended for controlling acceptabilityor quality of welds.1.2 This practice applies only to the use of equipment forradioscopic examination in which the image is finally pre-sented on a display screen(monitor)for operator evaluation. The examination may be recorde
、d for later review. It does notapply to fully automated systems where evaluation is automati-cally performed by computer.1.3 The radioscopic extent, the quality level, and the accep-tance criteria to be applied shall be specified in the contract, purchase order, product specification,or drawings.1.4 This
、 practice can be used for the detection of disconti-nuities.This practice also facilitates the examination of a weldfrom several directions, such as perpendicular to the weldsurface and along both weld bevel angles. The radioscopictechniques described in this practice provide adequate assur-ance for d
、efect detectability;however,it is recognized that, forspecial applications, specific techniques using more stringentrequirements may be needed to provide additional detectioncapability. The use of specific radioscopic techniques shall beagreed upon between purchaser and supplier.1.5 The values stated i
