2、evision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This test method describes a procedure for total hydro-carbons(THCs)measurement in hydrogen intended as

3、 a fuelon a methane(C1)basis.The determination of THC on a C1basis is an analytical technique where all the hydrocarbons areassumed to have the same response as methane(CH4).Sensi-tivity from 0.1 parts per million by volume(ppm(v),mol/mol)up to 1000 ppm(v)concentration is achievable.Higher con-centr

4、ations can be analyzed using appropriate dilution tech-niques.This test method can be applied to other gaseoussamples requiring analysis of trace constituents provided anassessment of potential interferences has been accomplished.1.2 This test method is a Flame Ionization Detector-based(FID-based)hy

5、drocarbon analysis method without the use ofseparation columns.Therefore,this method does not providespeciation of individual hydrocarbons.Several varieties ofinstruments are manufactured and can be used for this method.1.2.1 This method provides a measure of THC“as CH4,”because all hydrocarbon spec

6、ies are quantified the same as CH4response,which is the sole species used for calibration.Magnitude of the FID response to an atom of carbon isdependent on the chemical environment of this atom in themolecule.This method provides the THC result as if all carbonatoms are from aliphatic,aromatic,olefi

7、nic,or acetyleniccompounds,where the detector response caused by these atomsis approximately relative to the number of carbon atomspresent in the molecule.Other types of molecules,includingthose containing oxygen or chlorine atoms,will responddifferently and usually much lower than the corresponding

8、aliphatic hydrocarbon.Therefore,other methods(Test MethodsD7653,D7892,or equivalent)must be utilized to determine theexact constituents of the THC response determined by thismethod.1.3 The proper handling of compressed gas cylinders con-taining air,nitrogen,hydrogen,or helium requires the use ofgas

9、regulators to preclude over-pressurization of any instru-ment component1.4 UnitsThe values stated in SI units are to be regardedas standard.No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its us
