2、 indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This test method covers the quantitative determinationof residue and oil distillate in emulsified asphalts composedprincipally of a semisolid or liquid asphalti

3、c base,water,andan emulsifying agent.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard.No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.3 This test method does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the

6、lloy still to 260 6 5C and the volumes of distillateand water obtained are measured.The residue from thedistillation,and also any oil portion of the distillate,may betested as required.4.Significance and Use4.1 This test method can be used for quantitative determi-nation of residue and oil distillat

7、es in emulsified asphalts forspecification acceptance,service evaluation,control,and re-search.This test method can also be used to obtain residue andoil distillate for further testing.This method may not beappropriate for emulsified asphalts containing latex or polymer,however some specifying agenc

8、ies may utilize this method andstipulate a lowered distillation temperature.By stipulating alowered distillation temperature,the precision and bias state-ment may not be considered valid.Low temperature methodssuch as Test Method D7403 and Practice D7497 are options forobtaining residue for latex or

9、 polymer modified emulsifiedasphalts.5.Apparatus5.1 Aluminum-Alloy Stillapproximately 241 mm in heightby 95 mm inside diameter with cover and clamp as shown inFig.1.The dimensions as noted in Fig.1 are provided asreference for the ease of the user and are considered noncriticaldimensions.NOTE1Residu

10、e by distillation results obtained with iron stills areacceptable.5.2 Gasketa variety of gasket materials may be used toseal the still providing they withstand the maximum tempera-ture reached during distillation.NOTE2Use of a gasket is optional if the joint can be ground to a tightfit or only resid

11、ue recovery is required and further analysis on the wateror oil distillate is not needed.5.3 Heat Sourceshaving holes on the inner periphery andhaving three spacers,to ensure centering of burner around thestill(see Fig.2).The dimensions as noted in Fig.2 are providedfor reference for the ease of the

12、 user and are considerednon-critical dimensions.NOTE3Optional use of a Bunsen burner(equipped with optional wingtip)as shown in Fig.3.5.4 Connection Apparatusconsisting of approximately 12mm glass or metal connecting tube,tin shield(as detailed inFig.3),and a water-cooled glass condenser tube with a

13、 metalor borosilicate glass jacket.The metal connecting tube may besecured to the lid by a threaded compressing fitting.Glassconnecting tube may be secured to the lid by means of a corkor silicone stopper.Other condensers of approximately 12 mmglass or metal tubing may be used,providing that the wet
