3、od-plastic composite(WPC)deckboards.This specification also defines the procedures toestablish a performance rating for WPC guards and handrails.The purpose of this specification is to establish the basis forcode recognition of these products or systems in exteriorapplications where combustible cons
4、truction is allowed(seeX1.1).NOTE1While WPCs may contain wood fiber,the presence of woodfiber in the composite is not required by this standard.Other lignocellu-losic materials may be used.For WPC deck boards and guardrail systemsevaluated according to this standard,the structural,physical,and firea
5、ttributes may or may not exhibit similarity to those of wood due to thepresence,type,and quantity of plastic(s)in the composite.WPCs shouldnot be assumed to behave similarly to wood.For example,to address theinfluence of plastic in the composite,special considerations in the standardaddress sensitiv
6、ity to temperature,ultraviolet(UV)exposure,and freeze-thaw resistance.1.2 Deck boards,guards,and handrails covered by thisspecification are permitted to be of any code compliant shapeand thickness(solid or non-solid).NOTE2While WPCs are produced in a broad range of ratios of fiberto resin it is reco
7、gnized that the performance requirements in thisspecification are valid for any material or combination of materials usedas deck boards,guards,or handrails.For products made primarily fromresin,or for products that exhibit highly plastic properties(for example,more than 3%strain without rupture in a
8、 standard flexural test underambient conditions),users are directed to Specification D6662 foradditional guidance.1.3 A deck board,and a deck board used as a stair tread,areassigned a span rating indicating its ability to comply withmodel code specified functions identified for its specific enduse.A
