、Designation:D86107(Reapproved 2013)Standard Practice forUse of the Tex System to Designate Linear Density ofFibers,Yarn Intermediates, and Yarns1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D861;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the c

、ase of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1.Scope1.1 This practice

、covers the use of the tex system todesignate the linear density(number,or count)of fibers and ofyarns made from any type of fiber or combination of fibers.Itis also applicable to other textile materials, including yarnintermediates(slivers, rovings, tops, etc.),single or plied yarns, cords, and threads.NO

、TE1The mass per unit length concept of linear density isapplicable to any material which has a high ratio of length to cross section.1.2 Conversion factors for various indirect and direct yarnnumbers to exact tex equivalents can be found in StandardTables D2260.1.3 This standard does not purport to

、address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2D123 Terminolo

、ed that tex units, including their mul-tiples and submultiples,be used to designate the linear densityof all natural and man-made fibers,filaments,yarns,cords,rovings,tops,etc.5.2 It is recommended that linear density be reported tothree significant figures, using either millitex, decitex,or texunits.1
