6、 delineator.4.Summary of Practice4.1 Arandom selection of three bags of thermoplastic trafficmarking material is made from a manufactured lot.Using oneof the three size reduction methods outlined in this procedurea small,representative sample of the manufactured lot isobtained.This sample may then b
7、e used for the testing of thechemical and physical properties of the marking material.5.Significance and Use5.1 It is important to obtain a truly representative sample ofthe thermoplastic traffic marking material prior to performingany tests.This can be difficult due to the wide ranges of sizes,shap
8、es,and densities of the individual components that areused in the manufacture of these types of materials.The samplethat is obtained using this guide should be representative of themanufactured lot from which it was obtained and can be usedfor the testing of the chemical and physical properties of t

16、ywood,or metal ona level floor surface.8.1.3 Empty the contents of one of the bags onto thesampling area.Using the metal scoop mix the material,breaking up any large lumps.Shape the pile of material into ashigh of pile as possible forming a symmetrical inverted cone.8.1.4 Take the metal splitting device and center it over theapex of the inverted cone of thermoplastic material.Lower thedevice into the material,thus splitting the sample into fourequal quarter sections.8.1.5 Take the material from
