6、ves forEngine Coolants3.Performance Requirements3.1 The following performance requirements of stop-leakadditives must be achieved in order to meet this specification.3.2 The stop-leak additive must be capable of plugging aminimum hole size of 0.254 mm(0.010 in.)and a minimumslot size of 12.7 mm(0.50
7、 in.)long by 0.254 mm(0.010 in.)wide when tested in accordance with Test Method D3147.3.3 The stop-leak additive must not plug a slot size largerthan 12.7 mm(0.50 in.)long by 0.635 mm(0.025 in.)wide.3.4 Fluid removed from the Test Method D3147 stop-leaktest must not leave any residue or particulate
8、matter on thesurface of an ASTM E-11 No.10 sieve,when poured throughthe sieve.3.5 Stop-leak additives passing the tests detailed above mustbe tested for foaming tendency in accordance with the TestMethod D1881.A volume of 150-mL maximum foam isallowable with a break time of 5 s max.The foam test mus
9、t berun on fluid removed from the apparatus used,at the comple-tion of the Test Method D3147 stop-leak test.3.6 Duplicate test runs must be conducted for each stop-leakadditive tested.Both sets of results are to be reported.Both setsof results must satisfy all the requirements outlined in thisspecif
10、ication.4.General Requirements4.1 Testing shall be performed according to the methodsdesignated in Test Methods D1881 and D3147.Follow TestMethod D1176 for sampling and preparation of coolant dilu-tions.4.2 The minimum hole and slot plugging requirements mustbe achieved in each of the duplicate test
11、s required.4.3 The stop-leak additive,when installed in a vehiclecooling system in accordance with manufacturers recommen-dations and those on the product label,shall be suitable for usein a properly maintained cooling system without adverselyaffecting heat transfer or fluid flow.5.Keywords5.1 engin
