2、ion,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This guide provides general information to users,publicofficials,and others regarding the source reduction,

3、reuse,recycling,or disposability of materials made from solid orcorrugated fiberboard.It may be used as a resource in thedetermination of the point at which recycling is impractical anddisposal is appropriate.1.2 This guide does not attempt to provide specific infor-mation on how solid or corrugated

4、 fiberboard is to be recycledor its preferred means of disposal.It is intended to beinformational in nature and to serve as a starting point forconsiderations of recycling and associated environmental is-sues.The need for observance of and compliance with Federal,state,and local statutes and ordinan

5、ces is recognized asimposing certain limitations on the extent of recycling andmeans of disposal of all materials.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safe

8、fication D 4727.3.1.2 Definitions of many terms in general use in thepaperboard and fiber box industries are available in referencesand documents provided by industry and research associations(for example,The Fibre Box Handbook).3Definitions ofcommon generic terms to describe certain materials andco

9、nstruction features of fiber containers may be found in anygood dictionary.4.Significance and Use4.1 This guide will familiarize users with source reduction,reuse,recycling,and disposability options and will assist in thedetermination of the recyclability of various solid and corru-gated fiberboards

10、.It provides information which may be usedto help determine degrees of purity of recoverable papermaterials based on visual inspection(that is,presence ofadhesives,wax impregnations,coatings,and so forth).PracticeD 1974 discusses the various methods of box closure and thematerials used in their acco

11、mplishment.4.2 This guide recognizes that there are constraints in thegeneral area of recycling and recyclability,including access toappropriate facilities.It describes the general characteristics ofsome types of solid and corrugated fiberboard material andprovides information concerning the methods

12、 of recycling andeventual disposal that are available to users of such material.4.3 No attempt is made,nor is it intended,to rate or rankone method or technique over another.Further,this guide doesnot purport to decide for its user which method or technique issuperior in the users given situation.Su

13、ch determinations canbe made only by the user,based on a thorough evaluation ofalternatives and in consideration of all applicable laws,stat-utes,regulations,and ordinances of the locality involved.5.Types of Materials5.1 For the purposes of this guide,the general groups ofmaterials described may be

14、 used to provide a basis from whichto begin the decision-making process toward the recyclabilityof material.There are many grades of recoverable papermaterial.The paper industry has developed general categoriesinto which most of these grades may be classified.For the1This guide is under the jurisdic
