6、Significance and Use4.1 Bleed resistance is considered to be an important char-acteristic in leather used to make lined and unlined items thatmay come in contact with water.5.Apparatus5.1 Air-Tight Oven.5.2 Bleached Cotton Sheeting,32 in.squares(51.6 by 51.6mm).5.3 Glass Plates,two 6 in.squares(152.

7、4 by 152.4 mm)and0.125 in.(3.18 mm)thick.6.Test Specimen6.1 The test specimen shall be a 4 in.square(101.6 by 101.6mm)of finished leather.7.Procedure7.1 Place the unfinished side of the leather specimen on thecenter of one of the glass plates.Thoroughly soak the foursquares of cotton sheeting in dis

8、tilled water for 5 min.Stackthem on top of each other on the other glass plate.Invert thisplate with the cotton cloths,and place on top of the other plateholding the leather specimen.The cloths should line upapproximately in the center of the leather specimen.7.2 The cloth in immediate contact with

9、the leather ismarked Number 1,the next cloth Number 2,the next Number3 and the top cloth Number 4.Place this entire sandwich in anoven at 120F(49C)for 12 to 16 h.Remove the glass platesand observe the individual cloths for discoloration.8.Report8.1 Migration of BleedingObserve each of the four cloth

10、sfor coloration and report migration as 0,1,2,3,or 4.Thenumbers indicate the cotton cloth that discoloration hasreached by migration.8.2 HueNote the predominant hue of the colors that bledon each cloth.8.3 IntensityObserve each cloth Number 1 for this pur-pose.The degrees of intensity shall be terme
