3、otary-drillingprocedures with water-based drilling fluids may be used forgeoenvironmental exploration and installation of subsurfacewater-quality monitoring devices.NOTE1The term direct with respect to the rotary-drilling method ofthis guide indicates that a water-based drilling fluid is pumped thro

4、ugh adrill-rod column to a rotating bit.The drilling fluid transports cuttings tothe surface through the annulus between the drill-rod column and theborehole wall.NOTE2This guide does not include considerations for geotechnicalsite characterization that are addressed in a separate guide.1.2 Direct-r

5、otary drilling for geoenvironmental explorationand monitoring-device installations will often involve safetyplanning,administration and documentation.This standarddoes not purport to specifically address exploration and sitesafety.1.3 UnitsThe values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units(giv

6、en in brackets)are to be regarded separately asstandard.The values stated in each system may not be exactlyequivalents;therefore,each system shall be used independentlyof the other.Combining values from the two system may resultin non-conformance with the standard.1.4 All observed and calculated val

7、ues are to conform to theguidelines for significant digits and rounding established inPractice D6026.1.5 The procedures used to specify how data are collected/recorded or calculated in this standard are regarded as theindustry standard.In addition,they are representative of thesignificant digits tha

8、t generally should be retained.The proce-dures used do not consider material variation,purpose forobtaining the data,special purpose studies,or any consider-ations for the users objective;and it is common practice toincrease or reduce the significant digits of reported data to becommensurate with th

9、ese considerations.It is beyond the scopeof this standard to consider significant digits used in analysismethod or engineering design.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establi
