10、ing out a color that is distinctive for the particularpreservative.3.2 A chemical solution,specific for a species of wood,isapplied to a wood specimen or cross section of wood to bringout colors distinctive to sapwood and heartwood.4.Significance and Use4.1 Preservatives of the metallic series and o
11、il solublepreservatives are not readily apparent in a cross section ofwood either due to similar color to the species of wood or lackof color of the preservative itself.Chemical staining of atreated specimen of wood reveals the presence of the preser-vative.4.2 The sapwood and heartwood of Douglas-F
