3、s the determination of the com-parative tensile properties of glass fiber strands,yarns,androvings in the form of impregnated rod test specimens whentested under defined conditions of pretreatment,temperature,humidity,and tension testing machine speed.This test methodis applicable to continuous fila

4、ment,glass fiber materials thathave been coated with a resin compatible sizing.This methodis intended for use in quality control and R&D,and should notbe used to develop composites design data.NOTE1This method is technically equivalent to the short methoddescribed in ISO 9163.NOTE2Prime consideratio

5、n should be given to the use of a polymericbinder that produces specimens that yield the highest consistent values forthe glass fiber material under test.Tensile properties may vary withspecimen preparation,resin impregnation system,and speed and environ-ment of testing.Consequently,where precise co

6、mparative results aredesired,these factors must be carefully controlled.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard.The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.NOTE3Prime consideration should be given to the use of a polymericbinder that produces specimens that yi

11、 symbols relating to this testmethod appear in Terminologies E6 and D883.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 This test method consists of impregnating glass fiberstrands,yarns,or rovings with a suitable polymeric bindermaterial and loading the resulting test specimens to failure in atension testing machine

12、having a constant-rate-of crossheadmovement.The cross sectional area is determined from skeinsof glass fiber taken before and after each set of test specimens.After impregnation and curing,the specimens shall either betabbed using glass fiber mat or cardboard and tested withstandard grips;or the end

13、s shall be sanded with 240 gritsandpaper or fine emery cloth and tested using rubber facedgrips.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D20 on Plasticsand is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D20.18 on Reinforced Thermoset-ting Plastics.Current edition approved Sept.1,2

16、 test method are ofvalue for identifying and characterizing materials for controland specification purposes as well as for providing data forresearch and development studies.5.2 This test method is intended for use in testing resin-compatible sized glass fiber materials that have been designedspecifically for use with certain generic types of plastics.Theuse of a resin impregnant that is compatible with the reinforce-ment material under test produces results that are most repre-sentative of the
