6、diameter by 12.7 mm(12in.)deep and approximately 1.6 mm(116in.)in wallthickness(Fig.1).5.2 Glass Plate,double strength,approximately 102 by 102mm(4 by 4 in.)(Fig.1).5.3 Aluminum Foil,household,approximately 102 by 102mm(4 by 4 in.)(Fig.1).5.4 Putty Knife.5.5 Gravity-Convection Oven,controlled at 65

7、6 2C(1496 3.6F).5.6 Penetrometer,fitted with the tip and shaft of a greasepenetration cone as described in Fig.4 of Test Methods D 217,with a total moving load of 54.5 6 0.1 g.5.7 Photo Spot Light,or equivalent.6.Reagent6.1 Solvent,such as methyl ethyl ketone or acetone.7.Sampling7.1 The compound to

8、 be tested shall be taken from apreviously unopened container.Remove the compound fromthe container and work with a putty knife to a homogenousconsistency on a nonporous surface.8.Procedure8.1 Cover the glass plate with the sheet of foil;then centerthe brass ring on the covered plate and pack the mi

9、xedcompound flush with the top of the ring(Fig.1).8.2 Place the specimen(glass plate,ring compound)in theoven controlled at 65 6 2C(149 6 3.6F).The specimen shallbe at the same level in the oven as the temperature-measuringdevice.Allow the specimen to remain in the oven for 336 h(2weeks).8.3 Remove

13、he latest information.a can or similar tightly sealed container and submerged in awater bath at the designated temperature.8.4 Remove the aluminum foil carefully from the bottom ofthe ring by slowly peeling the back away from the compound.8.5 Invert the ring and place it on the stand of the penetrom

14、-eter(Fig.2).Adjust the dial to zero or other recorded reading.Release the moving load for 5 s,after which read thepenetration.Take four readings on the freshly exposed surface19 mm(34in.)away from the edge of the ring equally distantaround the periphery at 12-3-6-9 oclock positions(Fig.3).Clean the

15、 tip of the cone after each reading.NOTE1The degree of set is measured by the ability of the compoundto resist penetration of the weighted cone.Before use,both the shaft of thepenetrometer and the bushing through which it falls shall be thoroughlycleaned with solvent.The original contact point of th

16、e tip is very importantin obtaining accurate readings.By providing strong light from a photospot light or similar source from behind the penetrometer a shadow is castand the point of the tip brought down until the tip and its shadow justcoincide on the surface of the compound.9.Report9.1 Report the penetration as the average of the fourdeterminations.10.Precision and Bias10.1 On the basis of a round-robin in which seven labora-tories tested four samples,the“between-laboratories”standarddeviation
