6、asolineto be tested are compared with those of glass permanent-colorstandards.3.Significance and Use3.1 Aviation gasolines are dyed different colors for easyidentification of grade,thus minimizing possibilities for fuelingaircraft with fuel of the wrong grade.4.Apparatus4.1 Color Comparator,split-fi
7、eld,for viewing simultane-ously(by transmitted light)the sample to be tested and thecombination of the reference liquid and the glass permanent-color standard.4.2 Fluid Tubes,of glass,200 mm viewing depth,with afused-on plane bottom plate.4.3 Plungers,Fluid Type,of polished optical glass.4.4 Aviatio
8、n Gasoline Color Standards,2permanent-colorglass disks.5.Material5.1 The reference liquid can be either distilled water or asample of the gasoline to be tested before the addition of dyeor lead alkyl fluid.(WarningGasoline is extremely flam-mable.See A1.1 and A1.2.)6.Procedure6.1 Clean the optical s
9、urfaces of the color comparator.Insertthe empty fluid tubes in the comparator and adjust the positionof the light source until the intensities of the light from bothhalves of the comparator split-field are equal.6.2 Rinse and fill one of the tubes with the reference liquidto be used and insert the p
10、lunger.Wipe all excess referenceliquid from the outside of the tube and from the top of theplunger,and insert the tube on the left side of the comparator.6.3 Rinse and fill the other tube with the sample to be tested,and insert the plunger.Wipe all excess sample from the outsideof the tube and from
11、the top of the plunger,and insert the tubein the right side of the comparator,so that it is directly belowthe larger of the two openings when the access door is closed.6.4 Insert the glass permanent-color standards into thecomparator and rotate the standards until the color section canbe viewed by t
12、ransmitted light.Turn on the light source andcompare the two fields for hue and intensity with the minimumand maximum color sections of the glass permanent-colorstandards.6.5 Determine if the hue is approximately the same as thestandard and if the intensity of the color is between,orequivalent to,th
