3、ures for measuring and testequipment used for electrical insulating materials.It provides aframework of concepts and practices,with definitions andspecifications pertaining to measurement,adequacy of stan-dards,necessary environmental controls,tables of corrections,intervals of calibration,calibrati

4、on procedures,calibration ofstandards,and personnel training system documentation.1.2 This practice is intended for control of the accuracy ofthe equipment used for measurements that are made in accor-dance with ASTM standards or other specified requirements.1.3 This standard does not purport to add

8、ere.3.1.1 See Terminology D 1711 for terms pertaining to elec-trical insulating materials.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 accuracy ratio,nsee uncertainty ratio.3.2.2 adequacy of a standard,nthe quality or state of astandard that exhibits and maintains the required accuracy a

9、ndstability under the conditions of usage.3.2.3 calibration,nthe process of comparing a standard oran instrument with one of greater accuracy(smaller uncer-tainty)for the purpose of obtaining quantitative estimates ofthe actual value of the standard being calibrated,the deviationof the actual value

10、from the nominal value,or the differencebetween the value indicated by an instrument and the actualvalue.3.2.3.1 DiscussionThese differences are usually tabulatedin a“Table of Corrections”which apply to that particularstandard or instrument.3.2.4 calibration labeling,n for measurement equipmentor st

11、andards,a means to indicate the date of latest calibration,by whom it was calibrated,and the due date for the nextcalibration.3.2.5 certificationsee traceability to NIST(formerlyNBS).3.2.5.1 DiscussionIn the past,certification has been usedto convey the meaning of either or both of the above terms.S

12、ince NIST no longer issues certificates of calibrations,theterm has come to have a specialized meaning.The following isquoted from NBS Special Publication 250,“Calibration andTest Services of the National Institute of Standards andTechnology”,1968 edition:“Results of calibrations and other tests are

13、 issued to the customer asformal reports entitled,“National Institute of Standards and TechnologyReport of Calibration”,“National Institute of Standards and Technol-ogy Report of Test”,or“National Institute of Standards and TechnologyReport of Analysis”,as appropriate.Copies are not supplied to othe

14、rparties.Whenever formal certification is required by law,or to meetspecial conditions adjudged by the National Institute of Standards andTechnology to warrant it,a letter will be provided certifying that theparticular item was received and calibrated or tested and identifying thereport containing t
