7、 the TermiteResistance of Wood-Based Materials:Choice and NoChoice Tests3.Choice or No-Choice Methodology3.1 There are two types of basic termite bioassays:3.1.1 Choice testtermites are presented with two feedingtargets which may or may not contain insecticidal components.Difference in mass loss may
8、 be indicative of preference oravoidance of one material over another.3.1.2 No-choice testtermites are presented with a singularchoice and mass loss indicates ability of the insect to consumethe material.In no-choice tests,mortality data is needed todetermine dose mortality based on consumption of t
9、he testmaterial,which is often treated with suspected insecticidalcompounds.NOTE1It is recommended that both choice and no-choice tests beperformed when evaluating materials for resistance to subterraneantermites as the different tests address different behavioral responses of thetermites.3.2 Detail
