3、ated temperatures,in a safemanner that represents and preserves quality.In general,thispractice also applies to xylenols,and some other alkylatedphenolic materials;however,specific information regardingthese materials should be sought and used if available.1.2 Any person sampling or handling these p

4、roducts shouldconsult the applicable Safety Data Sheet(SDS)for specific firstaid instructions and information on the proper equipment tohave available for use in the event of personal contact orexposure.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard.No other units of measurement are

9、tedthat this information will only be utilized in conjunction withan existing health and safety program and consultation with anappropriate SDS.The information provided cannot be used asa substitute for expert safety and medical advice as provided inan appropriate SDS,but rather as a supplement to s

10、uch advice.4.Description of Products4.1 Phenol is a colorless to light pink crystalline materialwhich melts at 40 to 41C.Technical and USP grades melt atlower temperatures.4.2 Phenol is both extremely hygroscopic and sensitive todiscoloration.Therefore,it cannot be overemphasized thatproper precauti

11、ons must be undertaken when unloading orsampling the product.Moisture must be excluded.The use ofsampling devices that contain metals that may catalyze discol-oration(iron,copper)must also be avoided.4.3 Cresylic acid is a common chemical name applied tomixtures of alkyl-substituted phenols.Included

12、 are mixtures ofcresols,xylenols,and higher alkylated phenols.Many cresylicacid mixtures contain measurable amounts of phenol.4.4 Most cresylic acid mixtures are liquids at ambienttemperatures.However,at low temperatures(0C)they some-times become very viscous and difficult to pour.Some mixturesconta
