6、epair Parts,Packing and Packaging3.Terminology3.1 DefinitionsRefer to Terminology D 996.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 pack,intermediatea wrap box or bundle that con-tains two or more unit packs of identical items.3.2.2 pack,unitthe first tie,wrap,or container applied toa s

7、ingle item,a quantity of the same item,a set,or an item withall its component parts,that constitutes a complete andidentifiable pack.3.2.3 unitization(load,unit,or unitized)the assembly of agroup of containers or items into a single load in such mannerthat the load can be handled as a unit throughou

8、t the distribu-tion system.Unitization comprises,but is not limited to,consolidation in a container,placement on a pallet or load base,or securely binding together.4.Significance and Use4.1 This standard provides the minimum requirements forthe preservation,packaging,packing and marking of solidelec

9、trical insulating materials to be shipped by various forms oftransportation,such as,but not limited to,truck,rail and air.Itcovers multiple shipments,handlings and storage periodsencountered in the distribution of supplies through domesticchannels,and includes distribution through government chan-ne

10、ls for export,domestic and military destinations.5.Requirements5.1 Unless otherwise agreed to by the purchaser and seller,the following requirements shall apply:5.1.1 CleanlinessItems shall be free of dirt and contami-nation that would contribute to,or would cause deterioration ofthe item during shi

11、pment or storage,or would have to beremoved by the user prior to use.Any coatings or preservativesapplied prior to shipment to protect the item are not consideredcontamination.5.1.2 PreservationItems susceptible to deterioration ordamage from the elements,such as electrostatic charges,shallbe protec

12、ted by appropriate means.5.1.3 CushioningCushioning shall be provided for allitems susceptible to damage by shock and vibration duringshipment and handling.NOTE1Practice D 2956 or Test Methods D 3331,D 3332,or D 3580may be helpful in determining the need for cushioning.5.1.4 Unit Pack ConstructionWh

13、en used or specified,aunit pack shall be so designed and constructed as to contain thecontents during shipment and storage in the shipping containerwith no damage to the item,and with minimal damage to theunit pack,and to allow handling after shipment.5.1.5 Unit Pack QuantityUnless otherwise agreed
