3、 editorially in May 1995.1.Scope1.1 This test method covers the determination of moistureand any other material that is volatile under the conditions ofthe test.It is applicable to all natural drying oils.NOTE1For solutions of drying oils in volatile organic solvents it isrecommended that Test Metho

4、ds D 1259 or D 1644 be used.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations pri

6、tion solvent,moisture or other volatile adulterants thatmight interfere with their use.This test method provides ameans to measure the amount of volatile components at 105C.Oxidation of the oil could cause a weight gain at thistemperature,and this is minimized by blanketing the specimenwith inert ga

7、s.4.Apparatus and Materials4.1 Air Oven,maintained at 105 6 2C.4.2 Desiccator,containing efficient desiccant.4.3 Carbon Dioxide or Nitrogen Gas,(Warningsee 5.1)under pressure in cylinders.5.Hazards5.1 Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen GasGas supplied incylinders is dangerous because of its extremely high

8、pressure.Take care to prevent damage to cylinders,valves,and pressureregulators.Consult suppliers Material Safety Data Sheet.6.Procedure6.1 Weigh 10 g of sample to 0.1 mg,into a tared 50-mLflask.Heat in an air oven at 105 6 2C for 30 min,whilepassing a gentle stream of carbon dioxide or nitrogen int

9、o theneck of the flask.NOTE2Care must be taken to keep the surface of the oil blanketedwith inert gas throughout the test to prevent oxidation of the oil.6.2 Remove the flask from the oven,cool in a desiccator,and weigh to 0.1 mg.7.Calculation7.1 Calculate the percent loss on heating,L,as follows:L
