3、 of last reapprovai.1.scope 1.1 This specification provides the general requirements for cellulose acetate butyrate(CAB)solvent cements to be used in joining cellulose acetate butyrate pipe,tubing,and fit-1.2 These solvent cements are suggested for use with CAB pipe or tubing,and fittings pro-duced
4、from Grade MH in Specification D 707,and for a Grade S not specifically covered by Specification D707.For the purposes of this specification,Grade S of CAB shali meet the requirements of Grades MS,except flow tem-perature,which shali be 135*5C(275 f 9F).This does not exclude the possibility of using

8、cement shaii be a so-lution of Grade MH cellulose acetate butyrate plastic as specified in Specification D707 or Grade S described in 1.2 and one of the thin-ners described in 5.2.4.2 Rework CAB materials,generated from the manufacturers own pipe or tubing produc-tion,may be used to produce solvent
9、cement by the same manufacturer,if blended back into the same grade of virgin CAB plastic,so long as the rework material is compatible with the virgin material and the cement produced meets the requirements of this specification.4.3 The cement shall be free-flowing and shall not contain lumps,undiss
10、olved particles,or any foreign matter that will adversely affect the ultimate joint strength or chemical resist-ance of the cement.4.4 The cement shall show no gelation.It shali show no stratification or separation that cannot be removed by stirring.This specification is under the jurisdiction of AS

14、nsideration.One sample for every batch shall be tested in ac-cordance with 6.2.2 unless otherwise agreed 5.Detail Requirements 5.1 Composition(weight percent)of CAB solvent cements(see 4.1)shaii be as prescribed in Table 1.5.2 Composition(weight percent)of thin-ners for preparing solvent cements pre

16、l be as shown in Table 2 when tested in accordance with 6.2.2.NOTE 2-Cements approaching the minimum vis-cosity requirement of this specification generally are not recommended for a noninterference-type fit(where a gap exists between the pipe and fitting socket).5.4 The minimum average lap shear strength of the joints made with the cement shall be 3.9 MPa(565 psi)after a 2-h curing time and 8.9 MPa(1285 psi)after a 16-h curing time when tested in accordance with 6.3.NOTE 3-The specified shear st
