3、e non-volatile matter remaining after a specimen of fatty quaternaryammonium chloride is completely burned and ignited.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate
4、 safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.Apparatus2.1 CrucibleA porcelain or high-silica content glass of250-mL capacity.2.2 Electric Muffle Furnace.2.3 Triangle,Nichrome or clay.3.Procedure3.1 Ignite a crucible in the muffle furnace at 5
5、50 to 600C.Cool slightly,place in a desiccator for 1 h and weigh.Melt thesample if it is not already liquid,in a water bath.Mixthoroughly and weigh 20 g to 0.1 mg into the crucible.Heatgently by moving a flame on the bottom and sides of thecrucible until the specimen ignites.Reduce the size of thefl
6、ame until the heat is just sufficient to keep the specimenburning.Continue the heating of the specimen to a black charand transfer the crucible to the muffle furnace,heat at 550 to600C for 1 h.Remove the crucible from the furnace,coolslightly,place in a desiccator,and cool to room temperature.Weigh
7、and repeat the heating in the muffle furnace to constantweight.4.Calculation4.1 Calculate the percent of ash(Note)as follows:Ash,%5R/S!3 100(1)where:R=residue,g,andS=specimen weight used,g.NOTE1Unless free caustic is found,the ash can be concluded to beessentially sodium chloride.5.Precision and Bia
