7、 Note 1)butthe procedure must be consistent with that as given in thematerial specification.If the material is to be tested in the“dry”condition it shall be dried to constant mass.If the materialspecification does not give conditioning instructions,a condi-tioning environment of 73F 6 4F(23C 6 2C)an
8、d 50 65%relative humidity per Practice C870 shall be used.Fromthe measured mass and measured dimensions,the density ofthe product is calculated.NOTE1Some materials may contain volatiles such as moisture whenmanufactured or shipped,or both.5.Significance and Use5.1 Dimensional measurements of the pro
9、duct thermal in-sulation are essential in determining compliance of a productwith specification limits.Dimensional measurements of vari-ous test specimens are also required by the specific testmethod.5.2 Density measurements of the product insulation areuseful in determining compliance of a product
10、with specifica-tion limits,and in providing a relative gage of product weights.For any one kind of insulation,some important physical andmechanical properties,such as thermal conductivity,heatcapacity,strength,etc.,bear a specific relationship with itsdensity.In order to design for equipment support
11、s,check thematerial for the“as received density”where the moisturecontent of the product as received and then installed has thepotential to be consequential.6.Apparatus6.1 Steel measure,(ruler or tape),graduated in millimetresor better,suitable for measuring dimensions to 6 1.0%(seeNote 2).6.2 Instr
