2、er in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification defines the chemical and physicalrequirements for boron carbide powder intended for a varietyof nuclear applications.Because

3、 each application has a differ-ent need for impurity and boron requirements,three differentchemical compositions of powder are specified.In using thisspecification,it is necessary to dictate which type of powder isintended to be used.In general,the intended applications forthe various powder types a

4、re as follows:1.1.1 Type 1For use as particulate material in nuclearreactor core applications.1.1.2 Type 2Powder that will be further processed into afabricated shape for use in a nuclear reactor core or used innon-core applications when the powder directly or indirectlymay cause adverse effects on

5、structural components,such ashalide stress corrosion of stainless steel.1.1.3 Type 3Powder that will be used for non-core appli-cations or special in-core applications.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard.No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.2.Referen

15、orm to the chemical compositionrequirements prescribed in Table 1(see Methods C791).5.2 When agreed upon between the buyer and the seller,theweight loss of the powder shall not exceed 1%when heated at110C for 1 h in air.6.Physical Requirements6.1 The nominal particle size,particle size range,andappl

16、icable tolerances shall be agreed upon between the buyerand the seller.Method C371 and E11 shall be applied forparticles larger than or equal to 75 m.For particles smallerthan 75 m,the particle size distribution shall be determined bymethod B822.6.2 The density shall be determined when specified.TheTap-density(Test Method B527)or Skeletal Density(TestMethod B923)are approved methods.The recommended valueto be used for the theoretical density of stoichiometric B4C ofnatural isotopic content is 2.
