8、e prepared such thatinside diameter of the hub and the outside diameter of thespigot conform to the maximum and minimum(respectively)dimensions permitted by Specification A74.The compressiongasket to be tested is used to join the test pieces as detailed inFig.1.This assembly is then restrained and s
9、ubjected tohydrostatic pressure,and the performance of the joint assemblyis evaluated.5.Physical Properties,Material,and Marking5.1 Physical PropertiesThe gaskets governed by this testmethod are of a compression type and are designed to fit theannular space between the spigot(plain)end of one pipe o
10、rfitting and the receptive hub of another,as shown in Fig.2.5.1.1 Each compression gasket shall consist of one or moresealing ring(s)that compress to provide an airtight andwatertight seal.Compression gaskets shall have an integralflange to prevent the gasket from rolling into the hub duringinstalla
11、tion.5.1.2 Each compression gasket shall be designed to permitexpansion,contraction,and deflection of assembled pipingcommon to sanitary drain,waste,vent,and storm pipingapplications.5.2 MaterialCompression gaskets governed by this testmethod shall be made of a compound containing a thermosetelastom
12、er that complies with all of the requirements ofSpecification C564.5.3 MarkingCompression gaskets governed by this testmethod shall be marked with raised letters so as to be visibleafter installation(see Fig.3).Each compression gasket shall beplainly marked with pipe size and class,“ASTM C564,”“ASTM
