In1776,JohnAdamspredictedtohiswife,Abigail,thatAmericasIndependenceDaywouldbecelebratedbysucceedinggenerationsasthegreatanniversaryfestival.Hewrotethatthisanniversaryshouldbecommemoratedwithpompandparade,withshows,games,sp
3、orts,bells,bonfires,andilluminationsfromoneendofthiscontinenttotheother,fromthistimeforward,forevermore. Sincethen,generationsofAmericanshavedonejustthat.EachyearwelookforwardtothefamilygatheringsandthegrandcelebrationsthattakeplaceacrosstheNationonthe4thofJuly.Andamidthemusicandbarbequesandfirework

OnIndependenceDay,werecallthecourageandhighidealsofourNationsfounders,whowagedadesperatefighttoovercometyrannyandliveinfreedom.Recentyearshavebroughtarenewedinterestinthelivesandachievementsofourfo

Onthe4thofJulywealsohonorthesacrificesmadebyeachAmericangenerationtosecurethepromisesoftheDeclarationofIndependence.Formorethantwocenturies,fromthecampsofValleyForge,tothemoun
7、tainsofAfghanistan,Americanshaveservedandsacrificedfortheprinciplesofourfounding. Today,anewgenerationofAmericanpatriotsisdefendingourfreedomagainstdeterminedandruthlessenemies.Atthishour,themenandwomenofourArmedForcesarefacingdangerindistantplaces,carryingouttheirmissionswithalltheskillandhonorweex
