3、d high-strength low-alloy structural steel plates for welded,riveted,orbolted construction.It is intended primarily for use in weldedbridges and buildings where savings in weight,added durabil-ity,and good notch toughness are important.The atmosphericcorrosion resistance of this steel in most enviro

4、nments issubstantially better than that of carbon structural steels with orwithout copper addition(see Note 1).When properly exposedto the atmosphere,this steel can be used bare(unpainted)formany applications.Welding technique is of fundamental im-portance,and it is presupposed that the welding proc

5、edure willbe suitable for the steel and the intended service.Thisspecification is limited to material up to 4 in.100 mm,inclusive,in thickness.See Appendix X3 of SpecificationA6/A6M for information on weldability.NOTE1For methods of estimating the atmospheric corrosion resis-tance of low-alloy steel

9、1 Material furnished under this specification shall con-form to the requirements of the current edition of SpecificationA6/A6M,for the ordered material,unless a conflict exists inwhich case this specification shall prevail.4.Materials and Manufacture4.1 The steel shall be made to fine grain practice

10、,and thefine austenitic grain size requirements of Specification A6/A6M shall be met.5.Heat Treatment5.1 The material shall be heat treated by the manufacturerby heating to a temperature that produces an austenitic struc-ture,but not less than 1650F 900C,holding a sufficient timeto attain uniform he

15、m to the requirementprescribed in Table 1.6.2 When product analysis is required,the steel shallconform on product analysis to the requirements prescribed inTable 1,subject to the product analysis tolerances in Specifi-cation A6/A6M.6.3 The atmospheric corrosion-resistance index calculatedon the basi

16、s of the heat analysis of the steel,as described inGuide G101Predictive Method Based on the Data of Larabeeand Coburn,shall be 6.0 or higher.NOTE2The user is cautioned that the Guide G101(Predictive MethodBased on the Data of Larabee and Coburn)for calculation of anatmospheric corrosion-resistance index has only been verified for thecomposition limits stated in that guide.6.4 When required,the manufacturer shall supply evidenceof corrosion resistance satisfactory to the purchaser.7.Tensile Test
