3、licon steel,designated GradesA,B,and C.GradeC may be produced with a boron addition.The plates arequenched and tempered and are intended for welded-layeredpressure vessels.1.2 The maximum thickness of plates supplied under thisspecification is limited only by the capability of the chemicalcompositio
4、n to meet the specified mechanical requirements.However,current practice normally limits the maximum thick-ness to78in.22 mm for GradesAand B,and to 2 in.50 mmfor Grade C.1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard.Within the text,theSI units

8、eferred to thelisted supplementary requirements in this specification and tothe detailed requirements in Specification A20/A20M.3.3 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A20/A20M,the require-ments of this specification shall prevail.4.Manufac
9、ture4.1 Steelmaking ProcessThe steel shall be killed and shallconform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement ofSpecification A20/A20M.5.Heat Treatment5.1 All plates shall be quenched from a temperature in therange from 1600 to 1700F 870 to 925C.Grades A and Bshall then be tempered at not less
10、 than 1100F 595C,andGrade C shall then be tempered at not less than 1150F620C.The tempering soaking time shall be not less than12h.6.Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 1.7.Mechanical Properties7.1 Tension Test Requirement
11、s:7.1.1 The material as represented by the tension test speci-mens shall conform to the requirements given in Table 2.7.1.2 For nominal plate thicknesses of34in.20 mm andunder,the 112-in.40-mm wide rectangular specimen may beused for the tension test,and the elongation may be determinedin a 2-in.50-
