3、 Forensic Science,National Institute of Justice(TWGED,NIJ),Special Report,Education andTraining in Forensic Science:A Guide for Forensic Science Laboratories,Educational Institutions,and Students(1).21.Scope1.1 This practice provides foundational requirements for thetraining,continuing education,and

4、 professional developmentof forensic science practitioners to include training criteriatoward competency,documentation,and implementation oftraining,and continuous professional development.This infor-mation is intended for forensic science service providers tohelp establish a training framework with

5、 program structure andcontent;for forensic science practitioners as they acquire andmaintain their knowledge,skills,and abilities(KSAs);and fortraining programs to manage and support the continuousdevelopment of their employees.1.2 This practice outlines minimum training criteria andprovides general

6、 information,approaches,and resources for alldisciplines.The standard would complement additional spe-cific requirements for each forensic science discipline(forexample,relevant degree programs,higher education)if devel-oped by subject matter experts in their respective fields.1.3 This standard does

7、 not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety,health,and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international sta

8、ndard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade(TBT)Committee.2.Term

9、inology2.1 Definitions:2.1.1 apprenticeship,na relationship where an individualworks for an entity while learning skills(1).2.1.2 competency,ndemonstration that a forensic sciencepractitioner has acquired and demonstrated specializedknowledge,skills,and abilities(KSAs)in the standard prac-tices nece

10、ssary to conduct examinations in a discipline orcategory of testing prior to performing independent casework(2).2.1.3 continuing education,nthe mechanism throughwhich a forensic science practitioner increases or updatesknowledge,skills,or abilities(KSAs),reinforces knowledge,or learns of the latest

11、research,developments,or technologyrelated to his or her profession.2.1.4 forensic science practitioner,nan individual who(1)applies scientific or technical practices to the recognition,collection,analysis,or interpretation of evidence for criminaland civil law or regulatory issues;and(2)issues test

12、 results,provides reports,or provides interpretations,conclusions,oropinions through testimony with respect to such evidence(3).2.1.5 forensic science service provider,na forensic sci-ence agency or forensic science practitioner providing forensicscience services(3).2.1.6 internship,nan in-depth edu

13、cational or trainingprogram that offers a period of supervised practical experiencein a forensic science setting(2).2.1.7 knowledge,skills,and abilities(KSAs),nthe level ofinformation,qualifications,and experience needed to performassigned tasks.1This practice is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Commi
