9、ForewordThis British Standard for cylinders used in the determination of the pitchdiameter of external screw threads has been prepared under the direction of theMechanical Engineering Standards Committee.BS 3777 covering screw thread measuring cylinders was first issued in 1964.Atthat time,it was ap
10、propriate to give priority to cylinders for Unified andWhitworth thread forms and to use primarily imperial units.In addition,thelongstanding practice of using diameters of cylinders permitting measurementson a group of thread forms was continued although a more recent postwar facilityof using cylin
11、ders restricted closely to pitch line contact in a single thread formwas introduced as an alternative.Until metrication is complete,provision has to be continued for the measurementof pitch diameter of Unified,Whitworth and B.A.threads.Relevant informationconcerning measuring cylinders suitable for
12、this purpose is given in Appendix CWith the issue of this standard,BS 3777:1964 is to be regarded as obsolete.A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of acontract.Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct applicationCompliance with a British Sta
