14、faSectionalCommitteeontheStandardiza-tion of Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings,with the following organizations as joint sponsors:Heating,Piping,and AirConditioningContractorsNationalAssociation,latertheMechanicalContractorsAssociationofAmerica(MCAA);Manu-facturers Standardization Society of the Val

15、ve and Fittings Industry(MSS);and the American Society of MechanicalEngineers(ASME).ThreadedfittingswereaddedtothescopeoftheB16Committee,andSubcommitteeNo.2(nowSubcommitteeB)wasmade responsible for threaded fittings other than steel.Standards for cast and malleable iron fittings were approved byASA

16、as early as 1927.For many years,the need for standardization of threaded malleable iron unions was met by Federal Specifications(published by the General Services Administration)and other documents published by the Association of AmericanRailroads(AAR)and the Underwriters Laboratories(UL).As these standards continued to diverge,however,manu-facturers concluded that a common practice would be desirable.Accordingly,beginning in 1967,MSS developed astandard practice embodying features of the existi
