5、d TestSieves3.Significance and Use3.1 The test may be used to indicate compositional charac-teristics of emulsified asphalt.Evaporation residue may also besubjected to other characterization tests.3.2 This test method for residue by evaporation tends togive an asphaltic residue lower in penetration
6、and ductility thanthe distillation test method(D6997).Material may be acceptedbut shall not be rejected as failing to meet specificationscontaining requirements for determination of residue bydistillation,on data obtained by evaporation.If residue fromevaporation fails to meet the requirements for p
7、ropertiesspecified for residue from distillation,tests shall be rerun usingthe distillation test method.4.Summary of Method4.1 A sample of emulsified asphalt in an open top beaker isheated in an oven at 163 6 3C to determine the percentage ofasphalt residue.The residue from the evaporation may betes
8、ted as required.5.Sample Conditioning for Testing5.1 All emulsified asphalts shall be properly stirred toachieve homogeneity before testing.5.2 All emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing require-ments of 50C shall be heated to 50 6 3C in the originalsample container in a water bath or oven.The c
9、ontainer shouldbe vented to relieve pressure.After the sample reaches 50 63C,stir the sample to achieve homogeneity.5.3 Emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing requirementsof 25C should be mixed or stirred at 25 6 3C in the originalsample container to achieve homogeneity.NOTE1Emulsified asphalts
10、with viscosity testing requirements of25C may be heated and stirred as specified in 5.2 if necessary.In theevent the 5.2 method is used,the sample should be cooled to 25 6 3Cbefore testing.6.Apparatus6.1 Beakerslow form,1000-mL capacity,made of glass ormetal.6.2 Glass Rodswith flame-polished ends,ap
