7、uffing compounds.4.Apparatus and Reagents4.1 Gooch Crucible,prepared with a fine or very finefiltering disc(0.7 m retention value).The filtering disc shallbe washed with water,alcohol,and ether.The crucible shall bedried to constant weight at 101 6 1C,cooled in a desiccatorto room temperature,and we
8、ighed.4.2 Filter-Flask,of convenient size and Gooch crucibleadapter.4.3 Petroleum Ether.4.4 Kerosine,refined petroleum distillate with a flash pointnot below 23C(75F)as determined by Test Method D56using the tag closed tester.The kerosine shall be filteredthrough a Gooch crucible,prepared as in 4.1,
9、before using.5.Procedure5.1 Use the residue from the moisture and volatile determi-nation(see Test Method D5556)or a sample prepared in thesame manner.5.2 Add to the residue 50 mL of kerosine and,after heatingon a water bath to dissolve the fat,filter through the preparedGooch crucible with the aid
10、of a vacuum.Wash the contents ofthe crucible with five 10 mL portions of hot kerosine,allowingeach portion to drain before adding the next.5.3 Then wash the residue in the crucible thoroughly withpetroleum ether to remove all of the kerosine.Dry the crucibleand contents to constant weight at 101 6 1
