6、ms relating to this standard are definedin Terminology D2652.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 A known weight of activated carbon is placed into areflux apparatus with Type II reagent water(see SpecificationD1193).The mixture is refluxed for 15 min under specifiedconditions.This extraction is performed us
7、ing the method andapparatus described in Test Method D3838.After extraction,the carbon is separated by filtration and an aliquot of the filtrateis evaporated to dryness.Water solubles are determined byweighing the dry residue and expressing the result as apercentage of the dry carbon weight.5.Signif
8、icance and Use5.1 In certain applications,the ash,color,conductivity,orpH of the finished activated carbon product may be influencedby the quantity of water solubles it contains.This watersolubles test provides a relative indication of the quantity ofsoluble materials that may be extracted from vari
