3、lant,resistant to weath-ering,for use in sealing joints and cracks in Portland cementconcrete highway and airfield pavements.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-

6、ant,when in place,shall form a resilientand cohesive compound that is resistant to weathering,andshall effectively seal joints in concrete throughout repeatedcycles of thermal expansion and contraction,and against theinfiltration of moisture and incompressibles.It shall not flowfrom the joint or be

7、picked up by vehicle tires.The jointsealant,before placement,shall be stable at the safe heatingtemperature for up to 6 h.The poured joints shall be free ofinternal voids due to placement or that develop subsequently inservice.4.Physical Requirements4.1 Safe Heating TemperatureThe highest temperatur

8、e towhich the sealing compound can be heated and still conform toall the requirements specified herein.For the purposes oftesting as specified hereafter,the pouring temperature forspecimen preparation shall be the safe heating temperature,asrecommended by the sealant manufacturer.The safe heatingtem

9、perature shall be shown on all containers and shall beprovided to the testing agency before any laboratory tests arebegun.The safe heating temperature shall be a minimum of20F(11C)higher than the manufacturers recommendedapplication temperature(See Appendix X1).4.2 Cone Penetration,Non-ImmersedAt 77

10、 6 0.2F(256 0.1C),150 g,for 5 s,shall not exceed 130 units.4.3 FlowThere shall be no flow after 72 h at 158 6 2F(70 6 1C).4.4 BondThe sealant shall be tested at 0 6 2F(17.861.1C)for three complete cycles of 50%extension each.Allthree specimens shall meet the following requirements forbond:4.4.1 Noni

11、mmersed No specimen shall develop anycrack,separation,or other opening in the sealing compound orbetween the sealing compound and the concrete blocks.4.4.2 Water-Immersed No specimen shall develop anycrack,separation,or other opening in the sealing compound orbetween the sealing compound and the con

12、crete blocks.4.5 ResilienceWhen tested at 77 6 0.2F(25 6 0.1C),the recovery shall be a minimum of 60%.4.6 Resilience,Oven-AgedWhen conditioned in a forced-draft oven maintained at 158 6 2F(70 6 1C)for 24 6 2 h,and tested at 77 6 0.2F(25 6 0.1C),the recovery shall be aminimum of 60%.4.7 Artificial We

13、atheringAfter 160 h exposure,the jointsealant shall not flow,show tackiness,the presence of anoil-like film or reversion to a mastic-like substance,formsurface blisters,either intact or broken,form internal voids,have surface crazing,cracking,hardening,or loss of rubber-like properties.Evidence of p

14、hysical change in the surface ofthe material by visual and tactile examination shall constitutefailure of this test.4.8 Tensile Adhesion The average of three test specimensshall be a minimum of 500%elongation.4.9 Flexibility When conditioned in a forced-draft ovenmaintained at 158 6 2F(706 1C)for 72
