、Designation:D283495(Reapproved 2015)Standard Test Method forNonvolatile Matter(Total Solids)in Water-Emulsion FloorPolishes,Solvent-Based Floor Polishes, and Polymer-Emulsion Floor Polishes1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D2834;the number immediately following the designation indi

、cates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U

、.S.Department of Defense.1.Scope1.1 This test method covers the determination of nonvolatilematter(total solids)in a water-emulsion,organic solvent-basedliquid and paste floor polishes, and polymer-emulsion-typefloor polishes.1.2 This test method recognizes that the products maycontain material that

、will slowly volatilize or change chemi-cally with a resulting change in weight of the nonvolatilematter. Therefore, since drying to constant weight isimpractical, specific drying times have been selected.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses

、 are for informationonly.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior

、to use.2.Significance and Use2.1 Nonvolatile matter determination is useful as a qualitycontrol test, when used in conjunction with other tests, toassure specification compliance.3.Apparatus3.1 Flat-Bottom Dishes:3.1.1 For water-emulsion floor polishes and polymer-emulsion-type floor polishes, use alum

、inum dishes 1.5 cm deepand 6 cm in diameter.3.1.2 For solvent-based floor polishes,use glass dishes 4.5cm deep and 6 cm in diameter,with covers.3.2 Analytical Balance,with a sensitivity of 0.1 mg.3.2.1 Drying Oven,Convection-Type,capable of maintain-ing a temperature of 105.0 6 2.5C(221.0 6 4.5F).If

、 manydeterminations of solvent-based floor polishes are being madeat the same time,an explosion-proof oven should be used.4.Sampling4.1 The sample shall be thoroughly representative of thematerial in question, and the test specimen shall be thoroughlyrepresentative of the sample itself.5.Procedure5.1

、 Bring the material to be tested to equilibrium tempera-ture at 23 6 2C(73.4 6 3.6F).5.2 Making the determination in duplicate,place approxi-mately 2 g of water-emulsion floor polish,or solvent-basedfloor polish specimen,or 1 g of polymer-emulsion-type floorpolish specimen into a tared,dried,flat-bo
