6、 to settle,an aliquot of the superna-tant is diluted with water.The pH is adjusted to 13 andtriethanolamine is added to complex interferants.The sample istitrated with EDTA solution to the blue endpoint of hydrox-ynaphthol blue indicator.The cement content is read from acalibration curve prepared fr
7、om titrations of several knowncement content mixes made with the same water,soil,andcement as the sample.4.Significance and Use4.1 This test method determines cement content in mixturesof cement with soil or aggregate by chemical analysis.It wasdeveloped primarily as a relatively quick test for use
8、at theconstruction site to determine compliance with specifications.The method is for materials tested soon after the completion ofmixing;Test Method D 806 may be used for testing samplesfor which a significant degree of cement hydration or harden-ing has taken place.NOTE1Notwithstanding the stateme
9、nts on precision and bias con-tained in this test method;the precision of this test method is dependenton the competence of the personnel preforming it,and the suitability of theequipment and facilities used.Agencies which meet the criteria of PracticeD 3740 are generally considered capable of compe
10、tent and objectivetesting.Users of this test method are cautioned that compliance withPractice D 3740 does not in itself assure reliable testing.Reliable testingdepends on many factors;Practice D 3740 provides a means of evaluatingsome of those factors.5.Apparatus5.1 Balance,meeting Specification D
