3、misci-bility of water-soluble solvents with water.While writtenspecificallyfortestingacetone,isopropylalcohol(isopropanol),and methyl alcohol(methanol),the method issuitable for testing most water-soluble solvents.1.2 This test method serves to detect water-immisciblecontaminants qualitatively;the l
4、evel of detection of theseimpurities varies widely with both the type of solvent and thetype of impurity.1.3 The level of detection of water-insoluble materialsdepends upon the solvent tested and the type of impurity orimpurities present,that is paraffin,olefin,aromatic,highmolecular weight alcohol,
5、or ketone,etc.There is,therefore,nospecific level of impurity detected by this procedure.NOTE1This test method is normally performed at ambient,but othertemperatures may be used as specified by the consumer and supplier.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard.No other units o

9、n is diluted to 10 volumes with water andthe resulting mixture examined for cloudiness or turbidity.4.Significance and Use4.1 Water-insoluble materials present in a solvent expectedto be completely water miscible may interfere with many usesof the solvent.This test method provides a measure of themi
10、scibility of water-soluble solvents with a polar medium-water.It also provides a qualitative indication of the presenceor absence of water-immiscible contaminants.4.2 The results of this test method may be used in assessingcompliance with a specification.Prior to agreeing to this testmethod as the b
11、asis of a specification requirement,it may bedesirable that the interpretation of what constitutes cloudinessor turbidity be agreed upon between the supplier and thepurchaser.5.Apparatus5.1 Cylinder,graduated,glass-stoppered,250-mL.6.Reagent6.1 WaterReferences to water shall be understood to meanrea
12、gent water conforming to Type IV or better of SpecificationD1193.7.Procedure7.1 Transfer 25 mL of the sample to one of two clean250-mL graduated cylinders,dilute to the 250-mL mark withwater,and mix thoroughly.Allow any bubbles to rise to thesurface.7.2 Add 250 mL of water to the second cylinder and
