2、l adoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon(e)indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers a crosslinked rubber insulatingcompound for el

3、ectrical wires and cables.The polymer con-sists substantially of synthetic rubber.1.2 This type of insulation is suitable for continuous opera-tion at conductor temperatures not exceeding 75C in dry orwet locations and operating voltages not exceeding 2000 V.This insulation may have low-temperature

4、limitations.Consultthe manufacturer for specific recommendations for installationor application.1.3 Whenever two sets of values are presented,in differentunits,the values in the first set are the standard,while those inparentheses are for information only.1.4 In many instances the insulation materia

5、l cannot betested unless it has been formed around a conductor or cable.Therefore,tests are done on insulated wire or cable in thisdocument solely to determine the relevant property of theinsulation material and not to test the insulated conductor orcompleted cable.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Sta

7、2.1 aging(act of),nexposure of materials to the follow-ing:air at 80 psi(0.55 MPa)and 127C for 20 h;exposure tooxygen at 300 psi(2.1 MPa)and 80C for 168 h.4.Physical Properties4.1 Requirements for physical properties are listed in Table1.4.2 Thickness of InsulationTable 1 A(Conductor Sizes,Insulatio

8、n Thicknesses and AC Test Voltages for RubberInsulations)of Test Methods D 470 lists the average thicknessfor the insulation.The required minimum thickness is at least90%of that given in Table 1 A(Conductor Sizes,InsulationThicknesses and AC Test Voltages for Rubber Insulations)ofTest Methods D 470.

9、5.Electrical Requirements5.1 Order of TestingPerform the ac voltage,insulationresistance,and dc voltage tests in that order when any of thesetests are specified.The sequence of other testing is notspecified.5.2 AC Voltage TestTest each insulated conductor for 5min at the ac withstand test voltage gi

10、ven for ozone-resistinginsulations in Table 1 A(Conductor Sizes,Insulation Thick-nesses and AC Test Voltages For Rubber Insulations)of TestMethods D 470 under the columns labelled“Other ThanOzone-Resisting Insulations.”Unless otherwise specified,omitthis test for nonshielded conductors rated up to 5

11、000 V if the dcvoltage test described in 5.4 is to be performed.5.3 Insulation Resistance:5.3.1 The insulated conductor shall have an insulationresistance value of at least that which corresponds to a constantof 4000 MV-1000 ft(305 m)at 60F(15.6C).5.3.2 If the temperature at the time measurement was

12、 madediffers from 60F(15.6C),correct the insulation resistance to60F.Table 2(Temperature Correction Factors for InsulationResistance at 60F)of Test Methods D 470 contains thecorrection factors.Each insulation manufacturer can furnishthe 1F coefficient for the insulation material by using theprocedur

13、e given in Test Methods D 470.Multiply the measuredvalue by the correction factor to obtain the insulation resistancevalue corrected to 60F.5.3.3 If a nonconducting separator is applied between theconductor and insulation or if an insulated conductor is coveredwith a nonmetallic jacket so that the i
